Sicily Travel Diary Part 1…

Sicily Travel Diary Part 1…

August has been an amazing month, mainly because I got to tick off something major on my bucket list. I finally got to visit the home of the Godfather ,Sicily in Italy.

Having booked our holidays through Top Flight, we  traveled to Letojanni, a charming coastal resort in the Province of Messina where we spent the first two days literally laid out on the beach. The most effort that was made was finding a place to eat, which luckily enough was always a mere stroll away. The food did not disappoint, words to not even begin to describe the flavours and sensations of Sicilian delicacies, from the pizzas to the cannolis and granitas, I was in food heaven!! It was just what the doctor ordered, total indulgence and relaxation!

After the two days of lazying around, we decide to explore the place a little bit and took a bus ride to Taromina which is less than 10 minutes away from Letojanni. Taromina in my opinion would be that more glamorous , stylish cousin with all its upmarket shops and high end restaurants. It is apparently the most touristed place in Sicily and I can appreciate why with its timeless views and rich historical sites. There is an energy about the place I just can’t describe.

The Teatro Greco, Palazzo Corvaja, The Cathedral and even the main street “Corso Umberto I,” are just a sampling of the wondrous attractions that make Taormina the “Pearl of the Ionian. We spent most of the afternoon exploring The Teatro Greco which is the Ancient Greek Theatre. There is an entrance fee of €10 but it was worth it just for the views. The theatre was built in the third century BC and they still use it today for concerts and such. I can just imagine how magical it would be attending a concert there!

Having spent the better part of the afternoon walking the steps of the theatre in the heat, we set off to find someplace we could get a refreshing drink or two and happened on Daiquiri Taromina a cocktail bar across from the Cathedral overlooking The Square. They serve the most delicious cocktails and at no extra charge they will include an array of nibles. I absolutely loved the place and would recommend it anyday. The afternoon was made even better when we spotted Bradley Cooper (I’m a fan, what can I say ;-).

I will let that sink in and be back soon with another post on the rest of the stay.

Till next time

xoxo…
